A Beautiful Mind (2001)

I have recently watched “A Beautiful Mind” from Ron Howard and decided to be the review of it will be my first post. Guess I have to start with a spoiler alert. If you haven’t seen the movie maybe you shouldn’t read this post. First of all I must say I wasn’t expecting this movie to be that good. Ron Howard is a decent director in my opinion and he really messed up The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons.

The first hour was supporting my idea. Movie starts with a cliché beginning. A genius mathematician, conspiracy theories, codes etc… However in the second hour flow changed dramatically.

I believe a good movie should reflect the nature of humanity. I really don’t care about the things that I cannot know and I don’t like to guess infinite possibilities. For me a good story must contain exposure of physiology and emotion of an individual. And that’s what A Beautiful Mind is about.

Movie is about sanity and schizophrenia. It is a curious subject for me.  Mind of a schizophrenic individual always fascinates me. How can someone break the boundary between reality and dream? Is there a way to overcome this? How you can be sure what you observe is real?

As expected the motto of the movie is not answering these questions, however the perspective of the subject was really good. The story is about the struggle of a schizophrenic man trying to take back his life.I love the mixing of reality and his dreams and how it is presented in the movie. I don’t know the scientific reality of schizophrenia however this story was a nice interpretation of this condition in my opinion.

Russell Crowe demonstrates a great acting to support the subject of the movie and supporting characters were also good. As for cinematography, as I expected, it was simple. There weren’t any breath taking compositions or extraordinary usage of camera. Just plain old school, commercial film-making focusing on target audience not art.

Story was inspired from a real story and if you are curious about John F. Nash you can find his autobiography here.

To sum up, A Beautiful Mind was a good movie. As always Ron Howard directs a decent movie. Stars were good and story was really great. The most intriguing part of it for me was physiological aspect of the movie. I can easily recommend you to watch “A Beautiful Mind”. It will worth your time.  If you have any more comments feel free to drop it below.
